Recent studies have found a link between P. gingivalis, bacteria that plays a significant role in periodontal disease, and an increased risk of Alzheimer's disease. A new study reports SCPPPQ1, a protein expressed in the cells of the junctional epithelium, has antibacterial potential and could slow, or even destroy P. gingivalis.
