We are so proud of our three amazing faculty who were promoted to Associate Professor effective July 1, 2020: Diego Rincon-Limas (tenure), Miguel Chuquilin, and Christina Wilson.
Dr. Diego Rincon-Limas obtained his PhD degree in Molecular Biology and Genetic Engineering from the University of Nuevo Leon in Monterrey,Mexico and performed his postdoctoral training in the Department of Molecular and Human Genetics at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston. He uses fruit fly models to investigate the molecular basis of several neurodegenerative disorders including Alzheimer disease, ALS and prion disorders. He has brought more than $5 million in research funds to UF and has mentored more than 25 individuals at different stages of training and different career trajectories. In addition, he directs a transformative and influential graduate course on NIH grant writing and is the recipient of several UF Exemplary Teacher Awards. Lastly, his research, teaching and service efforts were recently recognized with the University of Florida Term Professorship from the Provost’s Office, which illustrates the excellence of his performance and contributions to the mission of the University of Florida.
Dr. Miguel Chuquilin, MD, FAAN graduated summa cum laude from the Universidad Peruana Cayetano Heredia Medical School in Lima, Peru, in 2003. From 2006 to 2011, he completed a neurology residency and a neuromuscular medicine/EMG fellowship at Washington University in St. Louis. He joined UF from the University of Missouri in Columbia in 2016 and became the Neurology Clerkship Director in 2017. He also applied for and received approval to start a neuromuscular fellowship at UF. He has received numerous teaching awards including the UF Faculty Clinical Educator (2017) and Didactic Educator Awards (2017, 2020), UF Exemplary Teaching Award (2018), American Academy of Neurology A.B. Baker Teacher Recognition Award (2019) and Fellow of the American Academy of Neurology (FAAN) (2019). He participates in numerous national working groups and committees and is a sub-investigator on different research projects in the neuromuscular division.
Dr. Christina Wilson, MD, PhD, FAAN joined the Department of Neurology as a vascular neurologist in 2013 after completing medical school, residency, and fellowship training at the University of Pennsylvania. She has served as the Neurology Residency Program Director since 2015, Vascular Neurology Fellowship Director since 2016, and departmental Associate Chair of Education and Interim Chief of Vascular Neurology since 2019. During her tenure as residency director, the program has increased in both size and national visibility, and is currently ranked #18 nationally and #4 among public institutions. She is a fellow of the AAN and has been awarded the AAN AB Baker Teacher Recognition Award as well as multiple teaching awards from the department and UF College of Medicine.
